The Flower Mound High School Orchestra Program began in 1999 when Flower Mound High School opened its doors for the first time. In the beginning, the program was small, but very powerful.
Now, after 8 years, the Orchestra Program is growing at a wonderful rate. For the first time, the program will reach the century mark in total enrollment. This is a positive reflection on the parents, community and quality teaching at the middle schools.
The 3 middle schools that feed FMHS are: Forestwood Middle School, McKamy Middle School and Shadow Ridge Middle School.
The list of achievements by all of the ensembles of the FMHS Orchestra Program are impressive. 7 straight years of Sweepstakes at UIL Concert & Sightreading, several "Best in Class", "Overall Outstanding in Class" at many Spring Festivals. In 2005 & again in 2006, the FMHS Fine Arts Ensembles were awarded the Grammy Foundation Gold Signature School Award. This award signifies that FMHS was among the 7 top fine arts schools in the country. Along with a real GRAMMY, the fine arts programs were given a check for $5,000.00. Recently, the Chamber Orchestra was invited to perform at The Midwest Clinic: An International Band and Orchestra Conference in Chicago, Illinois in December of 2007. The Chamber Orchestra competed with many orchestras across the nation and internationally and was chosen to be the only high school orchestra from Texas to perform at the conference.
Flower Mound High School is located on 52 acres of land that was purchased in 1993.
FMHS opened its' doors on August 11, 1999, to 986 freshman and sophomores and 108 staff members led by principal, Norman Reuther. The school was recognized as exemplary in the charter year.
